A piece of software that can be installed on computers to allow a user to interface and write using spoken language. Great for people that are cognitively intact but have difficulty with their hands or paralysis in their upper body.
Advantages

- over time algorithms train to learn your voice patterns and specific word usages
Disadvantages
- requires numerous hours of training before one can become proficient in its use
- one needs to speak in a clear voice or numerous errors will be made
- software itself and updates can be expensive
- accents may affect the accuracy of the speech to text typing
