A wall mounted device that has a pull cord that alerts a caregiver that assistance is needed once the cord is pulled. Usually installed in areas where falls are common such as near beds and in bathrooms
Advantages
- able to alert caregivers after a fall and receive assistance more rapidly
- device cannot be misplaced, unlike an alert button that is worn around the neck or wrist, but can be taken off
Disadvantage
- may not be able to reach pull cord if one sustains a fall, and thus will not be able to call for assistance
- pull cord could be obstructed by other objects if pathways are not clear and this could interfere with getting help
- may not have the strength or coordination needed to pull the string
